PLATINUM Installation Guide

Postby COWAR » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:37 pm

Double click the file "PLATINUM V2.00 splitted install.part1.exe". In the appearing window, type in the installation path and click the "Installieren" button. ("Install" button). Sorry, but the installation window is in german. Nothing more is to do. All three installation files become installed automatically. If the installation is finished you have to copy the complete Terrain folder into the Resource folder (not into the Tools Resource folder). If you don't have the Terrain folder somewhere, you have to download the Terrain datas from the download section or from an already existing installation of USAF. The Terrain datas are the same for every Version.

Then go to the Jane's Combat Simulations folder and create a desktop icon from the "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe" This is the file you have to launch to start PLATINUM.
With the first launch of PLATINUM you will get the "Incompatible Game Version" message. This is normal; push the "Start USAF MiniPro PLATINUM" button again and all will work fine.

Now you have to install the Patch V2.02 to get the latest version of PLATINUM.
PLATINUM Patch V2.02 Instructions
Unzip the dowloaded file.
You get the Patch.exe file
Execute this file to install the patch (needs about 5 seconds only). The installation window is this time in english.
The place to install the patch is the folder which contains the "Jane's Combat Simulations" folder, not inside the "Jane's Combat Simulations" folder.
You are set now; PLATINUM V2.02 is ready to fly.

Thanks COWAR, that clarifies a lot of my concerns.

Is there a similar instruction set for SuperPro?

Here are the installation instructions Davide Cestelli made.

-------installation of Stock Version--------
1) Install USAF Stock version in "D:\USAF" (full installation)
2) Install USAF WinXP UI Fix 1.01 (Floyd's one) (if you use WinXP OS)
3) Copy the pilot editor for USAF Stock version in a your choice folder (if you use WinXP OS)
4) Create a new pilot with the pilot editor and have fun !! (if you use WinXP OS)

-------installation of Pure Version--------
5) Make a copy of "D:\USAF" folder (excluding the terrain files!!!)
6) Rename the copy of USAF folder to "D:\USAF Pure"
7) Install the "USAF Pure" by Slikk
8) Install the "USAF Pure UI WinXP Fix" by Slikk (if you use WinXP OS)
9) Copy the "USAF Pure Pilot Editor" to "D:\USAF Pure" (if you use WinXP OS)
10) Copy the "USAF Pure Install Path FIX" to "D:\USAF Pure"
11) Run "USAF Pure Install Path FIX" and set:
"D:\USAF Pure" as Installation folder
"D:\USAF\Resource\Terrain" as terrain files installation folder (the terrain folder of Stock version)
Click on "Start files correction" button
12) Create a new pilot with the pilot editor and have fun !! (if you use WinXP OS)

-------installation of Super Pro Version--------
22) Install the Super Pro files in "D:\USAF Super Pro" by Slikk
23) Install the "USAF Super Pro UI WinXP Fix" by Slikk (if you use WinXP OS)
24) Copy in the D:\USAF Super Pro" the "Super Pro Launcher" files
25) Copy the "USAF Super Pro Pilot Editor" to "D:\USAF Super Pro"
26) Copy the "USAF Super Pro Install Path FIX" to "D:\USAF Super Pro"
27) Run "USAF Super Pro Install Path FIX" and set:
"D:\USAF Super Pro" as Installation folder
"D:\USAF\Resource\Terrain" as terrain files installation folder (the terrain folder of Stock version)
Click on "Start files correction" button
28) Create a new pilot with the pilot editor (if you use WinXP OS)
29) Run the "Super Pro Launcher"
30) Select a mission and apply the relative mods files
31) Apply again "USAF Super Pro Install Path FIX" (the installation path info should be already present in the text box)
32) Have fun !!

IMPORTANT NOTE (1): Only for Super Pro: REMEMBER TO APPLY THE INSTALL PATH FIX EVERY TIME YOU INSTALL A MODS FILE.
If you do not apply the install path fix every time the new mods files installed will contain the original installation path (C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulation\USAF) and the game will not work.

IMPORTANT NOTE (2): Only for Super Pro: When you load a mods file from super pro launcher the new files will be automatically extracted in your installation folder (following this example the files will be extracted in D:\USAF Super Pro").
The extracting process is automatic: you only need to click the "Load" button in the super pro launcher. The program automatically will change the installation path and will press the proper button for you.
If you apply manually the mods file you will have to set the extracting path manually changing it from "C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulation\USAF" to your personal installation path.

All this could seem complicated but it is not so. i'm sure that if you try to use the Super Pro Launcher you will apreciate it. It will permitt you to switch into the mission very quickly.

Still not seeing the patch V2.02 when the game is initializing, I've tried so many times, I've tried every Jane's Combat simulations folder I have. Here is my install path for Platinum D:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations. I didn't have any trouble installing Platinum but having trouble installing patch. Should I uninstall Jane's and reinstall it, also, when I put in the new hard drive C all of my installed programs were not listed in the add and remove programs section of the control panel. Could this be the cause for not seeing the patch. I'm going to copy and paste the terrain files and my pilot.ini file to my desk top, willing to have someone co-pilot my computer if needed. When trying to fly some missions I keep getting Jane's Combat Simulations Needs To Close and ask me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello M110A2,
the path you have to tell the installation routine is for you."D:\Program Files" not deeper into the structure.
Please have a look inside your Janes Combat Simulations folder. If inside it there is one more Janes Combat Simulations folder, you have to delete this.
Let us know how it works,
Rainer

Hi

I'm new to this... I've been a big fan of the USNF game for years and i was excited to find this modification of USAF.
Really looking forward to this... So I downloaded the minipro, installed it according to the installation guide and installed the patch and yet i still get this message "System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found"
I read the patch is supposed to correct this...

my os is xp.

what's going on? (or not...)

Hello ask4000,
try to start the "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe" as Administrator!
To do this right click on "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe", select "Execute as" and select Administator.
Now start the game by double clicking the "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe".

Let us know how it works. Also let us know if V2.02 is shown behind the word Initializing with the loading screen of the main game.
