Help with MP Platinum

Postby raised2golf » Thu Dec 24, 2009 3:17 am

Hello everyone. I posted this same message on the old message board, but figured I'd better do it here also since everything will be shifting over here soon...

Where do I begin? Just want to say thank you for keeping this great sim alive. I was able to get the PURE application working okay, but I'm having trouble with SP 9.4 and MiniPro Platinum. I'll just ask about Mini Pro for now.

From the beginning. After purchasing my download pass, I received an email from GK which included a download link. I went to the download site in the email, and there were files available for SP 9.4 and MiniPro Platinum. I downloaded all of them. There were three files available for MiniPro, one application and two RAR files, named 1, 2 and 3 respectively. I noticed the #1 file (the application) and the #2 file (an RAR file) were exactly the same size. Anyway, I ran the #1 file and pointed to "E:\usaf minipro platinum" (this is the only thing on this drive). Everything seemed to go well, even though I noticed during the install everything was in German. The install created the Jane's Combat Simulations folder, and everything that goes with it. Another thing I noticed is that there were alot of applications loaded into E:\usaf minipro platinum\Jane's Combat Simulations. I continued with the #2 file, and extracted it to the same directory, but it asked if I wanted to overwrite files. I said yes since it appeared to be identical to the #1 installation file. After that I extracted the #3 file to the same directory. After that finished I copied the entire Terrain folder into "E:\usaf minipro platinum\Jane's Combat Simulations\Resource". Then I right clicked on "E:\usaf minipro platinum\Jane's Combat Simulations\USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe" and created a shortcut on the desktop. When I clicked on the shortcut, a box popped up with the following message:

MiniPro Tools V4.5.0
System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found.

I've seen references to a Mini Pro Launcher and Mini Pro Pilot Editor, but can't find those anywhere. But I think there's other things I need to get right before I worry about those. Update, I did find some Mini Pro tools to download on the new website, but I don't have a download button showing up.

Whew...okay, I'm done...any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello raised2glf

About your installation procedure i can say that it is ok exept this point:
raised2glf wrote: After that finished I copied the entire Terrain folder into "E:\usaf minipro platinum\Jane's Combat Simulations\Resource".

Considering your installation path the correct place where to copy the 16 terrain files is this:
E:\usaf minipro platinum\Jane's Combat Simulations\USAF\Resource\Terrain

About the error you get when you try to run the "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe". In the download section of the old forum there are the file you need to extract into the same folder where you have the "USAF Mini Pro PLATINUM.exe" file. Here the links:

Hello David. Thank you for the information. When I installed MiniPro Platinum, there were some items in the Resource folder, but not the Terrain folder. That's why I copied the entire folder over to the Resource folder. Not sure if that's the way it was supposed to be, but I think ultimately I got the files where they were supposed to be. Once I get my download pass squared away, I'll download those three fix files...hopefully that'll square my install away. I'll let you know how it goes. I pm'd GK to ask him about my download pass problem.

Thanks again!!

Worked great!! Got those three fix files installed, and the game came up perfectly. I flew the Take Off Night training mission as a test, and that went well too. I did notice when I was done with the training mission the game highlighted the last mission in the set, and I couldn't get back to the first page of missions again without getting out of the game and coming back in. That's okay though since it's nice to select missions and get everything loaded from within the Mods Installation and Pilot Editor utility anyway...

It looks like there are quite a few new missions that come with Platinum, but are there any others available as well? I noticed Red Arrow and Sleeping Giant aren't available in Single Missions. Is that normal?

Thank you for a great game!!

Hello raised2glf,
Red Arrow and Sleeping Giant are campaigns; each of them contain several missions you have to finish successfull to come one step forward to fly your next mission. Also your resources are limited with campaigns; that means if you have lost an aircraft, it is not available for the next mission and also the resources of missiles and bombs are limited.

Hello raised2glf,
to navigate with the game mission menu you can use the arrow keys. To jump to the top of the mission list you can use the Pos1 key. So it is possible to fly the same mission again. But you are right, if you want to fly a different mission the best way is to select this mission at first with the user environment to be sure the needed mods get preloaded. One great advantage is to have the ability to select a lot of different aircrafts to fly the same mission. Try to fly the new single missions which are included with PLATINUM, I like them a lot, but this missions are not the easiest ones.
If you have any question feel free to ask. And I hope we can see you in the near future also in our vitual sky online.

Hi. I have a quick question about MP PLATINUM--can I go through the Plane Performance stats by individual jets, or are there so many more than the USAF programers originally had, that there's no way to look at the individual plane? There are some listed, but I was wondering if there was a way to scroll to the ones of the screen?
Thanks,
Anthony

Hello a1872, do you mean the Reference section of the game to see the the jet datas or what do you mean with: "can I go to the Plane Performance stats"?
