Refuelling

Postby Hillstrider » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:28 pm

Working my way through the Training elements I'm now tackling the Refuelling stages. After sitting through the automatic run I've had my crack at it, but despite completing the first task successfully the programme appears to be unaware of this and tells me repeatedly that I've failed.
Is there any way I can collect my 'gold star'?

What version are you trying? Super-pro or Mini-pro platinum? I flew the refuel mission last night in Mini-pro platinum and everything was fine. If I remember correctly, in Super=pro you might have to do two or three refuels to pass the mission. (one in auto pilot, and two in manual mode.) You might give that a try.

Thanks for that hint. I did only manage to complete the daytime, fair weather run having, as you said, taken a triple run at it. I'll have another try at the others.

No...there's still something amiss. Just did as you suggested and, with the Dusk Air Refuelling, I sat through an automatic refuel and then carried out two manual ones. As the Instructor made no comment, I made my way back to the field, landed and taxied towards the hangars. As I approached them, the tanker, having landed ahead of me, passed through its hangar and promptly blew itself up - and that brought the announcement that I'd failed the mission. Very disappointing and leaves me puzzled.

A bit more to my story.
Now I've d/loaded and updated all that I can for 9.4, and although I read on one of those updates that the problems with air refuelling have been sorted out, I'm still not passing the stages, despite sitting back and enjoying the ride on the autopilot run and then twice repeating my manual runs. I did notice that on both of those latter occasions the tanker went off on its own sweet way without announcing that I was full up and could move away.
What's amiss now? I'm doing it right and would like to see that green tick on my record.

I've since moved on to MiniPro. The automatic refuel sees my plane overtaking the tanker at tremendous speed and then sailing gently by, never to make contact at all. I've managed a SINGLE successful manual refuel but that doesn't hit the mustard, of course. perhaps I need multiple refuellings here in manual as well.
It's an interesting challenge.

Hello HHillstrider, to finish the refueling mission you need one automatic refueling and one manual refuelung only. For the automatic refueling you have to place your aircraft at a good position close behind the tanker and then activate the automatic refueling. If you activate the automatic refueling at a farer distance from the tanker, the refueling routine, which was made for the much underpowered and slower original version aircrafts, let the aircrafts overshoot the tanker. If you fly the aircraft close behind the tanker in a good position before activating the automatic refueling, the game engine uses not the high power of the aircrafts to come close to the tanker and is able to connect. I tested it with all jets successfully.
Let us know if you could manage to finish this finaly,
Rainer

Thanks for that helpful reply too. I'll get at tomorrow. May I just add, politely, not 'farer' but 'further'.

I did manage to complete that refuelling after all but I needed to get myself manually so close I could almost stretch out and touch the boom of the tanker, and ONLY THEN could I switch to auto-refuel successfully. An awkward mission to run.
